Mike Baur was raised in Switzerland, and was only 16 years old when he began to work in the banking industry. He studied at the University of Rochester and Bern University and earned business degrees at both. During the 1990’s, Baur worked for UBS and eventually served in an advising role for the company. Some of the richest people in Switzerland came to him for investing advice, but by 2008, he decided to move on from UBS and joined up with the bank, Clariden Leu. In 2014, he moved on in order to pursue his entrepreneurial passion.
Mike Baur created the Swiss Startup Factory in 2014 with the intention of helping young business people who ran technology startups. Part of what his company does is to offer training, mentoring, and funding to new companies. Along with this, companies who work with the Swiss Startup Factory also gain entry into offices that don’t cost them a dime. This initial period of help lasts for about 90 days, and during this time startups learn how to be better marketers and how to create amazing products or services. More benefits of their incubator program include access to other entrepreneurs in the tech industry as well as how to find investors who will sink money into their company.
Mike Baur recently commented on the uniqueness of the Swiss Startup Factory by illustrating the fact that it is independent and not part of a larger company or group with a political agenda. He also pointed out that his company has interested investors who invest in many of the startups that it supports. This means that his team and himself are highly motivated to ensure that the startups that come to them for help end up being a success. He also explained that the reason that the word “Factory” appears in the name of his company is because factory workers work hard, and he believes that his team and those they help need to work just as hard in order to make it in today’s competitive business world.
Mike Baur sits on BV4’s board and focuses a lot of his efforts on fundraising for the Swiss Startup Factory. He is glad that he ditched a steady 9-5 job in order to follow his dreams, and he looks forward to continuing to help other entrepreneurs discover their dreams by helping them to be as successful as possible.
